Our ACA-Accredited Camps have 50 years of parent trust behind them. Accreditation identifies those programs which offer a solid foundation of health, safety, and program quality; assurance that we comply with up to 300 health, safety, and program quality standards; and solid proof of our accountability, credibility, and commitment. It demonstrates that we have gone to great lengths, have been evaluated, and have passed the test!

The YMCA camp experience provides children with an opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills, develop their character and build their self esteem, while feeling safe and accepted.

Swim skills and water safety are an important part of the YMCA's service, and Camp Yomeca is no exception. School-age campers generally up to age 7, will participate in swim lessons onsite in our YMCA Outdoor Teaching Pool. Campers typically aged 8 & Up will have daily trips to the Crystal Springs Aquatic Center in East Brunswick or Milltown Community Pool for their swim lessons. Swim location will depend on the volume of campers registered in each camp level to ensure all campers have access to safe swim instructor ratio. Our swim instructors are YMCA professionals who specialize in aquatics. Have your bathing suits ready!

The Y’s Specialty Camps give campers an opportunity to focus on what they love, or develop a passion for something new. Specialty camp participants spend time working on that week's special activity during the first half of the day (except for trip days and other special occasions) and will have a showcase on the last Thursday evening of each session. These campers will swim ONLY at the Y’s teaching pool and attend all ACHIEVERS’ TRIPS. Specialty camp schedule and descriptions are included in the camp brochure and registration form. Our goal is to create a positive and friendly environment that will be conducive to learning. In order to accomplish that goal we will split the day up with periods of swim lessons, sports, arts and other fun activities! Specialty camps are run during our traditional camp day hours of 9am to 4pm and your child will have the morning, from 7 to 9am, and evening, from 4 to 7pm, to catch up with friends during guided activities!

Campers will develop improvisational skills while also exploring the world of dance through fames, spending time planning, choosing a song to perform, practicing, telling stories through dance, designing their own costumes and even performing for an audience. This camp is great for building self-esteem and showing expression in a healthy manner. Campers will participate in group dance and choreography challenges and perform for family & friends in our Night Under the Stars Showcase during the evening on the last Thursday of the 3-Week Session.

This camp is perfect for children who want to learn the basics of tennis or improve their game. Join us for 2 weeks full of skills, drills, fundamentals and fitness in daily games. It’s a fun way to learn the game of tennis! Campers will participate in a variety of creative activities to develop their tennis skills. Beginners to intermediate levels are welcome.

Theater Camp is where kids free their imagination and develop improvisational skills while also exploring the world of theatre through fames, acting exercises, spending time planning, choosing a play, practicing, costume making, creating back drops, telling stories, designing their own costumes and even performing for an audience. Campers will build confidence, learn to come out of their “shell”, and participate in rehearsal sessions and choreography challenges. Campers will perform the show during the evening on the last Thursday of the 3-Week Session.

Sessions are offered from June 18-August 31 to cover the entire summer until school begins. Yep, we LOVE CAMP!...It’s really the ENTIRE SUMMER!!! You can register for each week individually, meaning you only pay for the weeks you want. (Some specialty camps require full 3-week sessions to participate in end-of-session showcases.) The first and last weeks of summer offer Vacation Camp and can be registered by day.

Regular camp hours are 9:00am to 4:00pm. These are the main hours for our weekly activity schedules and all trips.

AM Care is between 7:00-9:00am and PM Care is between 4:00-7:00pm, which includes care and several supervised activity options. These additional hours are included with the cost of camp, at no additional charge, with pre-registration before Wednesday for the following week. Otherwise, late fee charges will apply at expected time of dismissal as we plan staff according to pre-registrations.

All forms need to be completed at time of registration and no later than Wednesday for the following week, pending availability to ensure we can plan for the safe arrival of your child. Current Y membership and deposit (deposit counts toward the total camp fee) is required at registration. Balance of the cost of each week is due before June 4th for weeks 1-3, June 25th for weeks 4-6, and before July 16th for weeks 7-9.

Trips and special events are age-appropriate and progressive to ensure an exciting summer and are chosen based on a variety of factors including but not limited to: safety, ratio requirements, time traveled, and educational value.

Preschool and school-age campers will travel and/or have special guests/events once per week. Middle school campers registered for Voyagers Camp will travel and/or have special guests/events twice or more per week.

Several Camp Open Houses are planned throughout the year to meet camp staff and see camp facilities (weather pending). Visit the top of this webpage for current dates/times. To answer all questions and concerns, we're happy to meet with all families! A meeting with the Camp Director is a great start to the camp decision process. To schedule a tour and meeting, please call Brenda Dempsey at (732) 257-4114.

Camp Yomeca also holds Parent Orientations on two different nights before the start of camp to go over everything parents and campers need to know to acclimate to camp. Visit the top of this webpage for current dates/times.

All staff are carefully screened and selected for their character and skills working with children. They undergo a criminal background check, fingerprinting and comprehensive training. Education, practical experiences, outstanding references, as well as an understanding of children's developmental stages are looked at very closely. Junior Counselors are 16 years or older and are never left alone in direct supervision of the children. All Senior Counselors are over 18 years and are selected based upon their experience with children, their personal character, responsibility and enthusiasm. Counselors-In-Training (CITs) are not counted in the supervision ratios. Volunteer staff may be used to support programming, special needs participants, or chaperone needs, but are never left alone with campers unless previously trained and cleared by our YMCA.

For swimming, additional swim instructors and lifeguards are added to increase supervision. For trips, administrative staff members and volunteers are used to supplement supervision within camper groups. For specialty programs such as archery and outdoor living skills, a program specialist is added both to direct the activity safely and to supplement the supervision ratio.

Our low staff to child ratios meets NJ State and American Camp Association requirements. Small groups mean more individual attention for each child. Counselors and Directors alike will foster a mentoring relationship with each child and work to create open and honest communication; working with parents to develop effective techniques for bringing out the best in every child.

Staff Ratios:

1:6 3-5 year olds 1:8 6-8 year olds

1:10 9-14 year olds 1:12 15+ year olds
